About the Programme

Hey beautiful people, my name is “Gina”. Welcome to my website!

Let me introduce you to my programme, “Down Jamaica Way”. This programme is the very first of its kind here in New Zealand. This is a programme produced by me and I am the Presenter and Host as well.

I won’t tell you my life story, but I can tell you a little about myself. I was born in the beautiful Parish of Portland in Jamaica. Jamaican, born and bred.

I attended the St Hugh’s High School for girls, which is situated on Leinster Road in Cross Roads in Kingston Jamaica. After acquiring a reasonable level of education at St Hugh’s, I was admitted into a Teacher’s College, but left after one year. Upon leaving this prestigious College, I decided to work with the Government of Jamaica, and so I did. I worked as a Civil Servant for quite a number of years, during which time I studied at, and graduated from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in the Social Sciences. The University of the West Indies is situated on the Mona campus, in St Andrew, Jamaica.

I’ll skip a few years at this point. I won’t bore you with too many details about doing a business course, and so on. I came here to New Zealand in the year 1991, with my son Paul, who was nine years old at the time.

And speaking of my son Paul, he’s a very special individual. I say that not because he’s my son, it’s just because he really is. He’s also very talented, with a brilliant mind. He has been a great help and support to me as a sponsor for this programme. So ‘big up’ to my son Paul for making it possible for this programme to go on air.

On my arrival in New Zealand, I lived in Auckland for sometime, before I returned to Jamaica for a short visit in 2004. I stayed in Jamaica for three years and a little bit, before returning here to New Zealand in September of last year (2008). But enough about me.

Have you ever wondered about that little island of Jamaica? Have you ever asked yourself, “Where in the world is the island of Jamaica?” Have you ever heard of the legendary reggae singer, Bob Marley? Have you ever wondered where he was born, and where he grew up in Jamaica? Have you ever wondered about the origins of Jamaican music? Well, tune in to my programme, “Down Jamaica Way”, and you’ll learn the answers to all those questions and gain even more information about the little island of Jamaica. You’ll hear:-

 Jamaican dialect

 Jamaican Proverbs

 Historical facts about Jamaica

 Tips, information and advice on travel to Jamaica; and of course, let’s not forget,

 Lots of Jamaican reggae music!

So tune in, and I’ll see you, “down Jamaica way”!
