About the ProgrammeHumanist Outlook is the radio programme of the Humanist Society of New Zealand. It is a quarter-hour programme which has gone to air every fourth Sunday morning for over twenty years. It explains Humanism and gives Humanist news and views. Subjects across the years have included voluntary euthanasia, sceptical enquiry, gay rights, freedom of and from religion, smacking, violence, public worship, stem cell research, religious war, animal rights, charity, clear thinking including the philosophy of scientific thought and Maori spirituality and aspirations. Mainly anchored by member Jeff Hunt and President Kent Stevens it also invites guest speakers. Based around the Humanist philosophy that humans are on their own and must establish their own rules of behaviour and ethics, the programme investigates claims of the supernatural, religious privilege, breaches of human rights and suggests Humanist solutions to human problems. Locally, Humanist Outlook keeps members and public informed of Humanist events and offers a shared voice to Humanists and their Humanism. |
