Send your feedback to autuakingi@hotmail.com Sounds a new Radio program focussing on good news and building networks through the community musicians including church musicians and volunteers launches on Wellington Access Radio this week. Richard TeTau and Mark Pritchard with whanau and friends are the hosts and producers of this new show capturing the sounds of local communities at work and play in the broadcast area from Taupo to Christchurch including Poneke Wellington. Polling members of the public with on-the-street interviews about their concerns hopes and aspirations of their own neighbourhoods give sharpness to the programme's relevance. Both Richard and Mark know that music as a universal language can help bridge not only ethnic but generational gaps. Having a common language to speak in our communities can help harness the power of music networks coupled with volunteer efforts and both aspects of our life together can increase the quality and enjoyment of life in our New Zealand streets and roads in our cities towns and rural communities. Research shows that communities where a large number of their ciitzens are involved in volunteer projects helping each other reveal the highest level of satisfaction, a sense of well being and happiness among their inhabitants. Volunteers are often the first to respond to perceived needs in the community. There are thousands of neighbourhood projects and activities going on in our towns, cities and rural communities roads and streets that can be multiplied up across our communities increasing a sense of well being through increased communication. Richard as a life long musician, song writer and worship leader in local churches has played in many bands in the central North Island knows that music can unite us. He is very intereseted in exploring beats and rhythms in local and international world music making a positive contribution to the health of our communities. He has played with such musical luminaries as Dave Dobbyn, Steve Apirana and Cindy Ruakere and other top artists througout central New Zealand. He will interview these well known musicians. Mark born and raised in the backblocks of Taranaki is a research scientist who for the past 20 years has with his family explored the value of grassroots networks and volunteerism in community networks involving little and large community groups including churches in the Boston Metropolitan area to improve the quality of life of people living in modern cities. His family together discovered the value of community radio in helping small neighbourhoods and communities access the power to help themselves. Sounds is about using these two mediums of music and collaborative activity in our communities to improve the quality of our lives. Wise sayings about living in our modern world will be sprinkled throughout the show. Listen to Sounds on Wednesdays between 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm on Wellington Access Radio 783 AM. |
