Station Rules

1. Security
  • After hours, firmly close and lock glass doors on street and doors to station.
  • Guard your pendant.  You will be charged for its replacement if lost.
  • If you are not directly involved with the presentation of a program, you are not allowed to be at the station after hours unless you have prior permission.
  • Report any incidents, security concerns, or accidents to staff immediately; if staff are not present, phone the help line in the on-air studio.
2. Alcohol and Drugs
  • No Alcohol unless permission is given the by Station Manager.
  • No drugs or intoxicated people in the studios!
  • No Smoking! A false fire alarm will cost us $1000!
3. Food and Drink
  • No Food and Drink in the studios. Water bottles are OK.
  • Please don't leave lots of rubbish (such as pizza boxes).
  • Wash your dishes and keep the kitchen tidy!
4. Phone Calls
  • Station telephones are for local calls only.
  • Cell phone calls and toll calls can be made only with staff permission.
  • Programmers needing to make long distance or international calls must use international calling cards, available from any dairy.
5. Children
  • Children under 16 must be supervised and well behaved when at the station.
  • Like adults, children are not allowed to touch station equipment unless they have been authorized to and properly trained.
6. Professional Demeanour
  • Everyone on the station premises is expected to behave in a professional manner.
  • Verbal, physical, and sexual abuse or intimidation will not be tolerated.

Broadcasting

1. Membership
  • All programme makers must be members of the Wellington Access Broadcasting Society.
2. Air Time Request Forms
  • Everyone must re-apply annually by filling out an Airtime Request Form.
  • We must have the names and contact information for all presenters on your show.
3. Things Change
  • Your programme time slot is not yours to keep. Schedules shift, and your show may be shortened, or even moved to a different time or day.
  • The station must accommodate an ever-growing number of broadcasters, listener populations, and specialty interests.   We reserve the right to turn down new programmes that duplicate what we already have on-air, and to terminate or shorten old programmes so that we can hear new voices.
  • Each year, the Program Director reviews each show and the station's overall allocation of airtime.
4. Operator Training
  • All operators must attend operator training with our staff engineer.
5. Defamation
  • All broadcasters must indemnify the studio and take personal responsibility for anything they say or do on air.
  • The station will not broadcast material which breaks the law.
  • All broadcasters must pass a Quiz about defamation when applying for airtime.
  • If you have questions about defamation, ASK A STAFF MEMBER!
6. Start and End Your Programmes on Time
  • Don't be late to your show - it creates problems. Dead air is unacceptable.
  • All broadcasters are required, without exception, to finish their program at the scheduled time.
7. Pay For Your Shows
  • Members must pay for their shows before they air.
  • Members who have outstanding debts will risk being taken off air.
8. Promos
  • All programme makers must play station-scheduled promos or advertising scheduled before and after their shows.
9. Follow Rules About Advertising
  • All programme makers must fully disclose their advertising revenue.
  • All programme makers must follow policies set by the Advertising Standards Authority.
10. Community or Station Members Complaints
  • Anyone may file a complaint about content broadcast from our station.
  • Complaints should be in writing and directed to the Station Manager.


The Station reserves the right to suspend members who break the rules.
