Lighthouse of Hope, is a weekly half hour show dedicated to helping anyone with a mental illness or their family, friends, employers, teachers and many other people. Mental illness affects about 1 in 5 New Zealanders. With the right help and support the overwhelming majority of people who experience a mental illness can improve significantly, find ways to manage it and find a positive way through.


The show combines the latest research, personal stories and practical advice to help anyone who is struggling with a mental illness. Our guests include, celebrities, experts, people who have personal experience with mental illness, family members affected by mental illness, service providers and many more.
Michael Hempseed is the managing director of the Employee Solution Service and also works as a youth worker helping young people in difficult situations. Michael gained an honors degree in psychology from the University of Canterbury in 2008. He has delivered over 50 workshops on mental health in the last two years, to doctors, teachers, parents, social workers, countless school groups and many more. He has taught classes at the university and at CPIT.
