May is NZ Music Month – but every month is NZ Music Month at Wellington Access Radio! The station is a massive supporter of local music and is committed to showcasing those musicians that you may not hear in the mainstream.
A recent media release from NZ On Air (New data shows radio airplay continues to play key role in showcasing Kiwi music, February 2023) highlights the integral role that radio plays in introducing the public to music made in Aotearoa, and Wellington Access Radio is proud to play its part.
The station plays 100% NZ music in-between the regular scheduled programmes from the Wellington communities, and many of these programmes also highlight local artists and their work.

- Terry’s Songwriters Show, Saturdays 2.30pm: Showcasing unsigned musicians, who come into the studio to play live and chat about their work.
- Awkward Talks, every second Saturday, 12pm: Interviews with local artists on the opportunities and adversities that established and up-and-coming musicians face daily.
- The Blackhouse, Saturdays 3pm: Sharing music from the very diverse global diasporic Pan-African communities across Aotearoa.
- Friday Night Album, Fridays 7pm: A local artist’s album played all the way through every Friday night.
- Aakashwani Bharat Bhavan, 6pm Mondays: The latest in Indian community events, news and interviews, plus the most popular Bollywood music.
- Māpura Studios Presents, Tuesdays 8pm: A monthly radio show showcasing the music, stories, poems, jokes and lives of Māpura artists as well as the wider worlds of international disability arts.
