The Blackhouse centres the African-Heritage & Black Diaspora experience in Aotearoa. Sharing stories, social observations, music, history, news, interviews, politics, & events from our very diverse communities in Aotearoa. The Blackhouse broadcasts Every Saturday, 3-4pm on Wellington Access Radio.
Lets introduce the team:
Nani Host: Is an artist & entertainer born in Hawaii and living in New Zealand. She pursues a number of personal projects to advance and broaden her skills; ranging from illustration and contemporary design, to live performance featuring original music and dance.
Eddie Host/ radio programming & research: A recent import from Cromwell in the depths of the South Island, Eddie brings a British/Jamaican flow to the show. He joins the team as a co-host and a sound selecta, surfing through songs to bring to your eardrums. When not on air, you can find him browsing the comics section of any Wellington Library, behind the wheels of steel as DJ Anansi and questing eternally for a black and yellow Adidas tracksuit.
Liya: CREATOR /Host/ Programming & Research/Social media/ Event promoter/ Blackhouse behind the scenes: Tanzanian-Aotearoan Heritage Xgenner. Survived the 80s with her 70s fashion sense, still intact. Social agitator, Empath & Afropunk, before that was even a thing. Once tried botox to get rid of "resting Ice Cube face", but has since decided "Ice Cube '' is a Tanzanian relative, it was more affordable. Loves Afrobeat, Amapiano, Busta Rhymes, goat stew, Ugali & boogie boarding. Has big dreams, still manifesting.
